We personally interview, check and vet all of the barista-partners on our service. 3 years minimum experience, reliable, friendly, and super professional. So when you book, you can rest assured that a top-gun barista will be supporting you on the day. It’s what we do.

We Created Need a Barista…
after years of working in cafes across Melbourne, New York, London, Osaka….and wherever else we found ourselves. The one constant we recognized, was that cafes needed a way to quickly book high quality, pre-vetted staff at short notice. The old agencies didn’t quite solve the headache that was rostering. They were super expensive, or more importantly, they just didn’t provide the quality of staff required. So, Need a Barista was born! We make sure every barista on our service is the kind of person we’d want walking into a cafe we own. Simple. We started with a couple of laptops and a homemade website, with Alex driving Tom to the first shifts we booked (seriously). Since then, we’ve covered thousands of shifts at awesome cafes, with amazing baristas. We love that we get to spend our days connecting top local baristas with the cafes in their city that they love.

The baristas on our service will charge you $24 per hour, and invoice you directly at the end of their shift. The $59 booking fee is charged per shift, and gets discounted the more you book!
Yes, it’s 5 hours. This is to make the shifts attractive to the amazing baristas on our service. Most skilled professionals won’t get up for less than a full days work, but we think 5 hours works pretty well for everyone.
Just how you pay your normal staff. At the end of the shift, your barista partner will simply invoice you directly for the hours worked (they have their own ABN and invoices), at the rate of $24 p/hour, all inclusive.
They’re….baristas: So, they should mainly do barista work. The barista-partners on our service are often happy to help out with some front of house support, customer service etc if asked nicely, but they’re primarily there to make amazing coffee, and they definitely can’t be put in a kitchen. The hourly rate you pay them reflects their skill and experience, so why waste it having them do floor work.
The baristas you connect with through us need some breaks just like any other staff. 5 hours + is a long shift, so please make sure you give them a break at some point.
